Gravity

Sir Isaac Newton: Universal Gravitational Attraction

Name: Isaac Newton

Born: 4 January 1643 (AD)

Died: 31 March 1727 (AD)

"Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done."

Newton proposed three theorems:

First Second Third
An object at rest will continue to be at rest. An object moving will continue moving unless a nonzero force is applied.

F = force
m = mass
a = acceleration

Every force has an equal but opposite force in the same time

Gravity / Acceleration

The acceleration (also known as gravity) depends purely upon the mass of the earth and the distance the other mass is from the centre of the earth.

Attraction

Every object in the universe attracts every other object with a force along the line of centers of the two objects.
